IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP

Can we really find happiness in a world of distraction and accumulating stuff? Buddhism tells us that we can't – but that there is a real happiness to be found if we look in the right place. On this course we will dive into Buddhist teachings about the nature of our experience, the nature of our minds and how these can be transformed. And we’ll apply those teachings to our everyday lives – developing tools and techniques to make meaningful change to ourselves and the world around us. You will learn the two most important Buddhist meditation practices, the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana. For those with more experience of these practices, there’ll be a chance to deepen your meditation by exploring the links between these practices and Buddhist ethics and wisdom teachings. Using a combination of team-teaching, small-group discussion, meditation, and practical exercises, this course gives us the tools to become more like the person we want to be.

What can you expect on this course?

Over six weeks, this course will introduce the transformative power of Buddhist ethics, wisdom and meditation. You’ll develop a solid foundation in meditation practice and learn practical transformative teachings to apply in your daily life.

Structure
Week 1 [19.06] Key Buddhist Ideas
Week 2 [26.06] Reactive Mind /Creative Mind
Week 3 [03.07] Ethics – Cultivating a Kinder Mind
Week 4 [10.07] Ethics – It’s not about being good
Week 5 [17.07] Meditation – Deep Dive
Week 6 [24.07] Buddhist Wisdom – Where does this lead us?

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for people new to meditation and Buddhism. But it also offers a chance to those who have meditated before to renew and deepen their meditation by understanding its purpose within wider Buddhist practice. If you've encountered mindfulness in a more secular context before, you can learn where those teachings and practices have come from, and how much further they can take you.

If you would rather dip your toes in before committing to a six-week course, do feel free to come to one of our drop-in sessions - every Saturday 10.30 - 12
