Saturday Drop-In Meditation Morning, Canterbury

Saturday Drop-In Meditation Morning, Canterbury

at Friends Meeting House, 6 The Friars, Canterbury, CT1 2AS

Join us every Saturday from 10:30AM to 12 noon for an open morning at the Friends Meeting House in Canterbury to learn Buddhist meditation, deepen your existing practice and meet like-minded people.

Open to all, suggested donation £5, tea and biscuits provided.

Meditation can help us to gain a new perspective on the stressful situations and anxieties of everyday life. It can also help to develop our self-awareness and can increase our sense of well-being.

Going Deeper | Every 3rd Saturday

A reminder that we have started our new rotation of 'Going Deeper' sessions every third Saturday. People have been asking for more depth from the drop-in and we hope this will provide that space, so instead of alternating between Mindfulness and Metta each week we will now be on a rotation of Mindfulness - Metta - Going Deeper.

These sessions will be an opportunity to explore meditation through a different lens each time. Maybe a Q&A on technique, an exploration of a particular aspect of practice or perhaps, simply, a longer less led sit.

Saturdays, Friends Meeting House 10.30-12.00, by donation.

Why I'm a Buddhist | 24th May

Why do we keep on coming back? What might speak to us from the practice or wisdom of Buddhism? Join us after the Drop-in on the 24th of May to hear three stories of what brings people from our Sangha back to the teachings of the Buddha. There will also be an opportunity to share with each other what has touched us personally.

Val, Jon and Serena will share what brought them to Buddhism, why they're still practicing and the beauty and inspiration that comes from that practice. It's sure to be a joyous morning, hope to see you there!

Saturday 24th May, Friends Meeting House 11.50-12.50, by donation
And save the date for the next talk -  Saturday 28th June

Radical Dharma | Six Week Introduction Course | Thursdays Starting 19th June

I'm excited to invite you to our first intro course. Six Thursday evenings exploring the core themes and practices of Buddhism in depth.

Can we really find happiness in a world of distraction and accumulating stuff? Buddhism tells us that we can't – but that there is a real happiness to be found if we look in the right place. On this course we will dive into Buddhist teachings about the nature of our experience, the nature of our minds and how these can be transformed. And we’ll apply those teachings to our everyday lives – developing tools and techniques to make meaningful change to ourselves and the world around us. You will learn the two most important Buddhist meditation practices, the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana. For those with more experience of these practices, there’ll be a chance to deepen your meditation by exploring the links between these practices and Buddhist ethics and wisdom teachings. Using a combination of team-teaching, small-group discussion, meditation, and practical exercises, this course gives us the tools to become more like the person we want to be.

Thursdays 19th June - 24th July, 7.00 - 9.15pm
